GDPR and cookie notice

Cookies
Ruby Grid sets no cookies. That covers analytics cookies, advertising cookies, functional cookies and third-party cookies. If a browser extension shows you a cookie banner on this site, it did not come from us, and there is nothing to accept or decline.
Browser storage
The game uses your browser's session storage for two things. The first is a session token, so the game knows who you are while the tab is open. The second is a finished score that could not be sent because the network failed, so the game can try again. Closing the tab clears both. Nothing is written to local storage.
Personal data we process
- The player name you choose, which is public on the leaderboard.
- Your run results and day streak, tied to that name.
- If you write to us: your name, email address and message.
- A hashed form of your IP address, kept for about a minute for rate limiting, and kept with a contact message to limit spam.
The privacy policy explains each item and how long it stays.
Legal basis
We process this data under legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR). The interests are running a leaderboard, stopping abuse and answering the people who write to us. You choose the name you give us, and you can use a nickname.
Your rights
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have these rights over your personal data:
- Access: ask for a copy of what we hold under your player name.
- Rectification: ask us to correct it. To change a leaderboard name, we remove the old entry and you start again under the new one.
- Erasure: ask us to delete it. We do this within 7 days.
- Restriction and objection: ask us to stop using it.
- Portability: ask for your data in a readable file. It is small: a name, scores and dates.
Send any request through the contact form with the player name you used.
How to opt out
To opt out, stop playing and ask us through the contact form to delete your player name.
Where the data lives
The data sits in a database file on the web server that hosts rubygrid.org. We do not send it to analytics services, ad networks or other outside services.
Complaints
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority. We would like the chance to fix it first, so please write to us.
